Grammarly requires your consent to access what you are writing and aesthetically indicates when it is working. I still suggest you disable Grammarly for such websites in case they are not configured correctly, as well as for things like sensitive legal documents.

Grammarly’s Apps

I set up the Grammarly desktop app on my Windows 10 device and had no issues checking in to my account. The app looks excellent and the layout is extremely functional; I especially like the side panel’s dark accents and minimalist icons. Users can choose in between making up text straight in an editor and importing an existing document.

If you just copy and paste text from a Word document into the Grammarly app, Grammarly states it only retains italic and vibrant format, headers, lists, and links. You will not see any formatted text while you work in the Grammarly editor, however the document retains all of the original formatting whenever you export it.

Because the editor now fortunately consists of format tools such as for vibrant, italics, underlines, links, lists, and headings (both numbered and bulleted), you could simply compose directly in the Grammarly app. However, it’s most likely much easier to keep writing in Word or Google Docs and use the devoted Grammarly tools for those platforms. Grammarly is not currently offered in any other language than English, so it will not supplement language discovering software application– unless, naturally, you are trying to learn English. Within a document, the right side of the window houses tabs for spelling and grammar errors, premium composing checks, a plagiarism checker, a human proofreader option, and a general composing rating based on these factors. As pointed out previously, the composing rating is valuable for getting a quick check of your composing development and how much revising you have actually left.

Two other features offered are Goals and Performance. Objectives launches whenever you import a new file; it helps Grammarly adjust its edits based upon the context of your writing. You can specify your intent (inform, describe, convince, tell a story), audience, emotion, and design. Premium users can select between different writing domains, including Academic, Organization, and Creative. The Performance popup reveals you basic information such as word count and reading time, in addition to vocabulary and readability metrics. These metrics are computed based on comparison with other Grammarly users and the Readability rating is based upon the Flesch reading-ease test. Both additions make Grammarly more useful at a higher level than that of simple mistake monitoring.

I still utilize Grammarly on a routine basis to proofread whatever I post on this blog. I have a pretty good grasp on grammar and English rules already, but it’s surprising how typos and small errors can creep into anyone’s writing.
